Project solar panels

The challenge of electricity and the increased electricity costs have forced the orphanage to make plans to make this incredibly high but indispensable expense more affordable on a monthly basis. ʼn Investing in 196 solar panels that generate 81kW of electricity can bring ʼn savings of up to ʼn a third of our electricity bill. The fact that we have 48 geysers on our site is a further challenge that led the Governing Body to decide to use heat pumps instead of geysers. Our calculation indicates that within 40 months we will recover the cost of the equipment after which we will drastically save on electricity costs.

However, the general condition of the orphanage’s electricity systems is a problem. ʼn Interesting fact is that the late Gé Korsten was the electrician who installed the orphanage’s electricity in 1957. Since then, not enough maintenance has been done and it has become critical to upgrade the electricity system. As our homes are being upgraded, we are also trying to redo the electricity system of the house in question.
