Blessed in abundance

The Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom needed food supplies during May 2021 after the pantry ran out of stock. A Facebook posting and media statement made the community aware of the need of the orphanage and the response was overwhelming!

Donors from far and wide teamed up and filled the food pantries. The Ducati motorcycle community arrived at the orphanage on Sunday, May 29, with a huge truck full of food, blankets and cleaning products, and also spoiled each child with a gift. They also prepared burgers for the children and spent a wonderful time with them. Thank you to all the Ducati men and women – we appreciate your generosity.

Several other businesses and individuals also put their hands in their pockets to contribute financially, or to provide food supplies. The hunting community usually takes care of meat supplies during the winter months. PHASA has made a generous cash donation for food supplies. We also received a lot of vegetables from the farming community. Since our storage and freezing space is limited and we do not like to waste food, we have provided some of the vegetables to other non-profit organizations, such as the local home for the elderly, to support them.

One of our regular donors in Australia has donated a GPS system for each of our vehicles. The purpose of this is to monitor, among other things:

  • rides;
  • speed;
  • service times;
  • renewal of licenses; and
  • services.

It is important to Mrs. Gerda van der Merwe, CEO of the orphanage, that there should be interaction between the orphanage and the community. The orphanage should not always be just in the position to receive; we must also be able to help others in the community who are experiencing distress.
