With joy, laughter, and chatter, the big bus is welcomed. Everyone is excited – the prospect of a lovely seaside holiday lies ahead. Jokes are shared, music is played, and voices join in song.

But as the wheels roll on the long road, things become quieter, the laughter fades, and the breathing becomes slower and heavier as the temperature inside the bus climbs to a sweltering 42 °C. Long faces greet you when the door opens for a quick stop and water break. The little ones become restless, complain of headaches, and we must act quickly to prevent fainting as the day progresses and the heat continues to rise.

This was our reality during our December 2024 trip to Gqeberha. But the same challenge plays out daily when 40 warm little bodies sit side-by-side on the way to and from school, or over weekends when our children travel long distances for school sports.

We urgently need air conditioning for our children’s home bus and appeal to our friends and supporters to help us fund this essential upgrade.
