Young and old gathered on 6 September 2025 at Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom’s A Night at the Cinema at Weesgerus Oord, Modimolle.

It was an evening of music, drama and dance inspired by iconic film scenes to showcase the talent of our children and staff. Proceedings opened festively with a spectacular laser show by Laser X. Everyone in the hall was swept up by the brilliant, colourful lights and the timeless music of ABBA.

The audience watched in awe as each participant gave their all: from the Gumboot dancers’ flips through the air to the Ants who, together with the Minions, filled the stage with joy and energy.

The Abraham Kriel staff surprised the audience with a humorous rendition of the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg film, Sister Act. The evening ended with an iconic scene from Dirty Dancing.

Our judges were Isabau Cilliers, somatologist and owner of the Be-You-Tiful beauty salon in Modimolle; Jessica Maroga, a 26-year-old with a passion for sustainable farming and an honours degree in Agricultural Economics; and Sam Seleki Selokelaie, pastor, life coach and motivational speaker.

Our winners for the evening were the Gumboot dancers with their energetic performance. The Ants and their unforgettable Red Brigade took second place, and High School Musical captured third place with their dazzling show. A special word of thanks goes to Charnel Oberholzer, one of our social workers, and her colleagues who coordinated the evening, as well as to Pieter Labuschagne and his team for sound and lighting.
