Children’s home celebrates Heritage Day in true South African style
The children and staff of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom celebrated Heritage Day on 24 September with a traditional braai and a variety of outdoor activities on the children’s home grounds.
The children enjoyed playing games, kicking rugby balls around and spending time with their friends and carers. The mouth-watering aroma of meat sizzling over the coals added to the festive atmosphere.
For the staff, it was also a welcome opportunity to step away from their usual daily routines and spend some relaxed, informal time with the children.
Although Heritage Day is celebrated across South Africa in recognition of the country’s rich cultural diversity, the celebrations at the children’s home centred on the simple pleasure of spending time together. Between the sport, games and relaxed get-together, there was plenty of laughter and fun, and wonderful memories were made that will stay with everyone for a long time.
