Academic Achievers to Tour England

“Rise above your circumstances.” This is the inspiring message of Cassandra “Cassie” Stehouwer, one of two Abraham Kriel achievers who will be touring England in October. Cassie (17) will be joined by Tijana Bosman (14) as they explore historic universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, King’s College, and Queen Mary University.

The girls were invited to participate in the tour on account of their academic performance. Cassandra, who is n Grade 11, has an average of 80% for Mathematical Literacy, an accomplishment she says is fuelled by her ambition and by her desire to become financially independent. She dreams of one day becoming a family lawyer. Grade 8 learner Tijana, meanwhile, boasts a 91% average for Mathematics. She wants to put her brains to use by becoming a marine biologist. Both girls have found a home, both in the school environment, and in the Abraham Kriel family.

Tijana recounts a passion for school that dates all the way back to kindergarten. Her academic gifts include writing, a skill she puts to use in the essays she writes about her feelings and thoughts. These essays form a private world that is all Tijana’s. “I write them in such a way that only I can understand them,” she shares.

Cassie, meanwhile, has a passion for history and for books. She shares that she can live in “many worlds” through the books that she reads. Her interests include a fascination with Europe, and particularly London – meaning her trip to England will hold extra significance!

For both girls, this once in a lifetime opportunity will open new doors and allow them to inspire others. Cassie and Tijana, we salute you!
