Early on Friday morning, 25 July 2025, a small, selected group of children from the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom – accompanied by two of our staff members, Annie le Roux and Charnel Oberholzer – set off on the long journey to Wonderboom Airport.

These children were privileged to attend The Children’s Flight – a day filled with adventure, surprises and hope.

According to Felix Gosher, organiser of the event, The Children’s Flight is aimed at giving underprivileged children access to the world of aviation. This year’s event was supported by 150 pilots and 175 sponsors from across the country.

Children aged between 6 and 13, from registered charities and children’s homes, took part in the day’s festivities.

The atmosphere was electric. Children – and adults – cheered as planes and helicopters zoomed past overhead. Faces beamed with joy, and the cameras clicked away enthusiastically.

Our children and staff enjoyed a scenic helicopter flight.

“I felt like a child again when I was strapped in and put on the headset. When the helicopter lifted off, time seemed to stand still. Seeing the world from above was simply indescribable,” said Annie le Roux.

“Did you see that?” and “Were you also scared when we went up?” were just some of the excited exclamations. There was laughter, chatter and precious memories made.
