On 24 July 2025, the staff of the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom braved the cold like true champions during their Winter Olympics team-building day.

The day was filled with mud, medals, and even a few disagreements over who actually crossed the finish line first.

Our very own Johan and Patsy designed the obstacle course. They made sure the challenges had everyone sweating – despite the cold.

There were many highlights throughout the day, but top of the list was the ice-cold swimming pool – and a few brave souls who decided they deserved the title “Iceman.” The rest of the staff watched shivering from the sidelines – and laughed heartily!

The Warriors were eventually announced as the winners – and didn’t just walk away with medals, but also with prize money sponsored by Pepe’s, a local restaurant in Nylstroom. The Survivors came in second, followed by the High-Five Team.

The icy morning ended with warm soup and freshly baked rolls – enough to make even the most cold-sensitive among us smile again.

A day of shared laughter and a bit of light-hearted silliness certainly gave our team the boost we needed to tackle the second half of the year.
