On Saturday, 13 June 2026, Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom became the centre of community spirit as visitors, exhibitors, performers, sponsors and volunteers gathered for the annual AKK festival.

According to AKK festival organiser Annie le Roux, the day was a great success.

“An event like this takes a lot of preparation, but when you see people coming from near and far, enjoying time together and supporting the children’s home, you know that all the planning was worth it,” le Roux said.

Visitors were entertained throughout the day with music and other performances, while also supporting the various stalls and enjoying takeaway food. Highlights of the day included the Highlights of the day included the Diversity Line Dancers, with 47 dancers from the children’s home, as well as the play Show on the Road, with its message “Every Life Matters”, performed by ten of our residents. The programme was further enriched by emerging local artists, before Bernice and Jannie du Plessis rounded off the day with warmth, energy and cheer.

For Gerda van der Merwe, CEO of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, the festival was more than just an enjoyable day out: “The AKK festival reminds us that we do not stand alone. The support of the community helps us to continue the work we do for the children every day.”

By the end of the day, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Visitors and exhibitors described the festival as “fantastic”, “better than last year” and “an unforgettable day”.

“Every visitor, exhibitor, performer, sponsor and volunteer played a part in this success. Your support means more to our children than words can express,” van der Merwe concluded.

AKK Festival 2026 was a day of fellowship, fond memories and support for a greater purpose.
