Profile of Sonika Cornelius – a light for others

Sonika Cornelius is a mother, wife, social worker and active member of the community with a passion for people. She is deeply committed to supporting her family, friends, colleagues, children and the community in which she lives and works.

“I am proud to work at Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom because I strongly believe in the organisation’s mission, values and goals,” says Sonika. For her, the work done by the children’s home is life-changing. She believes the organisation makes a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of the children and in the broader community.

As a qualified social worker, Sonika has valuable experience in management, child protection, and the development of both children and staff. She is skilled in using therapeutic interventions to promote wellbeing, healing and growth.

The meaning of her name, “bright light”, fits beautifully with her calling. She draws inspiration from the words: “The most precious light is the one that comes to you in your darkest hour.” Another thought close to her heart is that when you light a lamp for someone else, you also light your own path.

“I believe I am fulfilling my purpose in life when my light can shine – one staff member, one child and one community member at a time,” she says.

Through her involvement, compassion and professional expertise, Sonika strives to bring hope where there is hurt, guidance where there is uncertainty, and light to the children who need it most.
