At Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, the mission of our Klerekruik is simple: to ensure every child is neatly dressed, warm, and clothed with dignity from head to toe.

Every generous donation is handled with care. When clothing is received, each item is checked to make sure it is clean, neat and still usable. It is then sorted by size and packed onto shelves, so that children can easily choose what they need. For many of these children, a smart shirt, a warm pair of tracksuit pants or a pair of tekkies means far more than just an item of clothing. It gives them confidence, pride and the feeling that someone cares.

When new children arrive at the children’s home, they are fully provided with underwear, everyday clothes, church clothes and school uniforms. After that, Klerekruik works on an exchange system: children bring back clothes they have outgrown and exchange them for clothes that fit. In this way, they are also taught to look after their clothes and to use them responsibly.

Klerekruik currently has a great need for clothing for children between the ages of 7 and 14. Shorts for boys and girls, tracksuit pants for winter, and summer and winter pyjamas are urgently needed. For hygiene reasons, there is also an ongoing need for new underwear.

School uniforms, especially school shoes, remain a major expense, as they need to be replaced regularly. That is why every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.

We encourage our friends to donate clothing that is no longer worn, but still neat and usable, to the children’s home. A pair of shorts, a jersey, a pair of shoes or a set of pyjamas lying unused in a cupboard could bring warmth, dignity and new hope to a child.
