Since May 2026, ten children from Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom have been receiving cycling coaching through Johan Joubert Coaching. They train alongside other children from the community and are already making good progress. The positive effect can also be seen in their behaviour and growing confidence.

“It is a privilege for me to be involved with the children of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home,” says Johan Joubert.

According to Johan, the coaching is about far more than cycling. It provides a safe space where children can learn new skills, develop discipline and be part of a positive sporting environment.

“When we coach these children in a safe environment and provide them with reliable bicycles, we see them begin to change,” Johan says. “They learn to think strategically, solve problems, take responsibility for their equipment and build positive relationships through the sport.”

The project is made possible by support from the community. Donations of bicycles and equipment, together with assistance with repairs and maintenance, enable our children to take part regularly. Raai from Jimmy’s Cycle and Sport also provides ongoing help with bicycle maintenance.

The coaching takes place on the grounds of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, where Johan has already begun building a cycling track. The track gives the children an opportunity to tackle different obstacles and improve their skills in a safe environment.

There is still scope to expand the track further. The younger children at the home are also receiving coaching, but they are currently using bicycles that are not entirely suitable for their needs.

Any support that will help us expand the project would be sincerely appreciated. Materials such as sand, pallets, old tyres and cycling equipment can be donated. Practical help with the work or a financial contribution towards purchasing bicycles for the younger children would also be welcome.
