Cycle for charity
Gert Pienaar, a cyclist hailing from Johannesburg, embarked on an extraordinary 1 000-mile cycling adventure known as the Jo’burg to Blouberg 1000 Mile Challenge. This challenge entails self-supported cycling along Massive Adventures’ designated route. The journey commenced at Three Rivers, Vereeniging, south of Johannesburg, concluding approximately 1 000 miles (1,600 km) later at Blouberg Beach, Cape Town, with the iconic Table Mountain in sight.
Gert Pienaar began his expedition on 19 August, setting out from Vanderbijlpark. Unfortunately, on the third day of his cycling journey, 21 August, tragedy struck when he was hit by a bakkie just outside Bloemfontein. However, the driver came to his aid and promptly transported him to the nearest hospital. Gert subsequently spent several days in the intensive care unit, where his condition gradually stabilised. He was later transferred to Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital in Pretoria where he underwent back surgery. He is presently recuperating at home and working on rebuilding his strength.
We would like to thank all of our social media followers and sponsors for supporting him. A special word of thanks goes to the South African Special Forces Association (SASFA) for their support and generous donations. Gert Pienaar, at Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom, we salute you. We are deeply grateful for your dedicated efforts in supporting our children, and we sincerely wish you a swift and complete recovery.
