The staff of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Nylstroom recently celebrated Christmas in July together. Organised by Annie le Roux, the event grew out of her dream of a white Christmas.

The hall was decorated for the occasion with a Christmas tree, beautifully laid tables and delicious treats specially prepared by the children’s home kitchen.

At Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, staff work every day with children who have complex needs, painful experiences and individual challenges. Occasions like this give colleagues a welcome chance to step away from the pressures of their work, spend time together and recharge for what lies ahead.

The original dream of snow and a true white Christmas may still have to wait for another day. In the meantime, the morning showed just how much value there can be in simple moments. “And until that day comes, we will keep celebrating our own little Christmas in July – with plenty of love, good food, laughter and friendship, together with the people who make Abraham Kriel Children’s Home such a special place.”

In the end, the morning was not so much about the theme as it was about the people: staff who give so much of themselves every day and who deserve recognition and appreciation.
